Old Reliable: What Are Your Go-To Sneakers?
By krvanch - Feb 4, 2016
Everybody has their go-to shoes.
You know what they are. The ones that never get a chance to be put back into their boxes or back in the closet (or wherever you store them) because you just wear them THAT often. Maybe they’re beaters, creased up, dirtied and on their last legs. Maybe they’re actually well kept. Maybe they’re a pair of sandals, slip-ons or slides. Maybe its a running shoe, tennis shoe or something else. No matter what it is, your go-to shoe is always easy to put on. And while the place where you keep your go-tos might not look like the picture in the header, my guess is that there’s more than one pair there.
The benefit of the go-to is that it’s normally a shoe which has the comfort you want, is easy to get into and out of, and looks good with most of your wardrobe in case your travels take you out publicly for a given amount of time.
For a long time my go-to was an older pair of Air Max 360 IIs in metallic silver. It was a pair I got NDS and one which I didn’t really care too much about if I beat it up. They’re pretty beat up now after numerous runs here and there in just about every possible weather and environmental condition; rain or snow, through dirt and mud, and just about everything in between. I don’t keep them at an arms reach anymore, but they’re close enough that I still grab them from time to time.
My go-tos right now are a few different pairs of Adidas Superstars, a pair of Stan Smiths, and whichever pair of Adilettes I slip into.
The shoes have become go-tos because the colorways lend very well to the colors I’ve been wearing lately. I’m pretty sure just last week I wore my black Superstar “New York” pair every day. And like I said, it’s a direct reflection of the fact that I’m just wearing a lot of black and gray lately. My Stans? Well, when I’m wearing primary colors, they’ll work with almost anything.
When I’m off to the gym, I’m all about “ease of changing”. Ease of getting out of my sweats to put on my gym stuff, and the ease of getting back into it when I’m done. That’s where the Adilettes come into play. Slip off, slip back on. If I gotta run to the store, pick up a pizza or chinese, or even just to walk to get the mail, I slip on the Adilettes… no matter what the weather. The Adilettes double as my slippers in the house as well. If I don’t have a pair of shoes on, you can bet I have a pair of Adilettes on. They’re just that versatile (even if the almighty Mark Zuckerberg prefers the Adissage to the Adilette).
Sooner or later my go-tos, specifically my Superstars & Stans, will start showing some soil and wear and I’m going to regret having them at the ready at the drop of a hat, but, hey, we’ll deal with that later… or, maybe the good folks at Jason Markk might want to send me over some of their shoe cleaner and I can take care of it before it even starts.
So, we ask you,
What are your go-to shoes? How do you use your go-tos? Are you on a rotation? Are they straight beaters?
