By Andres Carrillo - Feb 5, 2016
Welcome back to another week where we highlight the Top 10 Stories Of The Week From The Kicks On Fire Instagram. This feature focuses on the top/most read stories of the week as chosen by you, our readers/supporters. The way it works is we post a picture about current sneaker news or an upcoming release on our Instagram account and many times we advise you to “click the link in our bio.” The main goal for that is so we can direct you to a certain piece of news on the site that we feel is important or breaking. It’s a quick way for us to connect you to the site in the click (or touch) of a button.
While last week we saw lots of variety when it comes to the brands that were making headlines, this week was the opposite. We’re one week from All Star Weekend and as a result this week was dominated from powerhouses Nike, Jordan Brand and adidas. Let’s waste no more time and check out what you chose as the top stories for the first week of February.
This week we received our first look at the next collaboration coming out of the Nike SB camp with this SPoT x Nike SB Dunk High Gasparilla. Nike SB collaborates with Skatepark of Tampa to create a Dunk High inspired a Spanish pirate by the name of Jose Gaspar who lived in South Florida in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The recent Nike SB collaborations haven’t really lived up to expectations but they could bounce back with this pair. 9
It was a year ago during All Star Weekend when adidas debuted their XENO technology on three different silhouettes. Now one year later they’re back with a new XENO pack that uses different colorways of the ZX Flux but peep this, this time they also glow-in-the dark. XENO technology AND glow-in-the-dark abilities on the same shoe? Talk about a flashy sneaker. Do you plan on picking up a pair during All Star Weekend?
RISE and PUMA come together for the 2nd time in three months to bring us part two of their RISE x PUMA Blaze Of Glory New York Is For Lovers collaboration that released back in December. While that shoe was meant to to raise awareness about the HIV/AIDS infection, this new black pair is meant to acknowledge and pay respect to the families and friends of those who have lost someone to the HIV/AIDS virus. This is a very meaningful release especially to those that have been or know someone that has been affected by the disease. Get yours tomorrow at 11am EST via Rise45.com.
Did you ever think that we would see XENO technology used on a performance sneaker? Yeah, I didn’t either. Adidas decided to accomplish the impossible and placed it on the adidas D Rose 6 recently and now on the Crazylight Boost 2.5 James Harden PE that the high-scoring guard will be wearing for the All Star Game. The cool thing is that you can buy a pair when it releases next week. So what do you think, does James Harden have the best All Star shoe for 2016 or do you have another favorite?
Kobe Bryant will be playing in his final ever All Star game next week and he’ll be wearing this green and black colorway of the Nike Kobe 11. The colors draw inspiration from the Northern Lights much like lots of other shoes releasing that weekend. I don’t really think that it would have mattered what the shoe looked like, this is Kobe’s last All Star shoe ever and lots of people want to pick up a piece of Black Mamba history.
Kanye’s adidas Yeezy Boost 750 was one of the most popular sneakers of 2015 as both colorways that released are being listed at some ridiculous prices on the secondary market. Sneaker Homie decided to borrow the design and create his own pair but made completely out of tan leather. Would you like to see an actual adidas Yeezy Boost 750 made out of leather or do you prefer the suede upper?
Nike will be releasing a special colorway of the Kobe 11 that celebrates Kobe’s ENTIRE career. How so? By placing both of the numbers he used in his career, 8 and 24, on the heel of the shoe. The purple and black upper represent him being a Laker for life where he won five NBA Championships. I have a feeling these will sell out when they release on February 27th.
The Swoosh JUST released the first Foamposite of 2016 with this University Blue colorway of the Air Foamposite One. I think sticking to tonal uppers with strong contrasting is the only formula that will work for this shoe because they’ve tried prints/graphics and we know how that went. Did you pick up a pair today?
The last couple of weeks the hype has been building and building for the release of the Black Air Jordan 10 OVO. This week we learned that this blacked out Air Jordan 10 will be releasing on All Star Weekend. With the festivities taking place in Drake’s hometown of Toronto this year were you really surprised?
Easily the most talked about piece of sneaker news this week came with new information regarding the release of the next adidas Yeezy Boost 350. First we heard rumors that the Pirate Black colorway was going to restock and then we heard that a completely new colorway was gonna release instead. It’s still hard to tell at this point since adidas hasn’t confirmed anything, but signs point to a new black colorway releasing with either blue or green detailing. The tentative release date is February 19th. We’ll keep you updated with the latest.
